Western Aircraft Names Approved Piper Aircraft Service Centers

Boise, Idaho, June 16, 2011 – Western Aircraft of Greenwich AeroGroup, Inc. announced today the appointment of two service centers for Piper aircraft in northern California. Western Aircraft appointed Mather Aviation in Sacramento, Calif., and renewed Mangon Aviation in Petaluma, Calif., as approved Piper service centers.

Western Aircraft joined Piper’s domestic dealer network in December representing Piper Aircraft’s product line for new aircraft sales in Alaska, northern California, Oregon and Washington.

Both Mather Aviation and Mangon Aviation are authorized to provide warranty work, aircraft maintenance, repairs, and inspections for new and pre-owned Piper aircraft Models. Piper Aircraft has approved the appointments.

Delegation to network at international air show - Local ...

COLUMBIA -- South Carolina is about to take its bow as a player in the international aerospace industry.

Gov. Nikki Haley and Commerce Secretary Bobby Hitt will lead an unprecedented delegation of six regional economic development teams and one from the State Ports Authority to the International Paris Air Show next week.

The recruiters will network with aircraft manufacturers and suppliers at the air show, hoping to attract companies to South Carolina and build the state's new brand as an aerospace hub.

The state started attending the air show in 2005, when then-Gov. Mark Sanford set in motion the deal that eventually landed aircraft manufacturing giant Boeing.

"But we haven't flown a plane out of South Carolina yet ... [so] this is a networking opportunity," Hitt said. "We'll be visiting some old friends and some new friends."

The International Paris Air Show-Le Bourget was first held in 1909. Today, it is the biggest event in the world dedicated to the aerospace industry. Companies use it to sell planes to airlines and show off new aircraft.

It is also a place where the world's aerospace suppliers gather to peddle their wares, making it fertile ground for recruiting companies to the state, Hitt said. There will be about 2,000 international exhibitors and 205 official delegations from 88 countries at the air show.

Hitt, a former BMW executive, noted the German automaker's Upstate plant employs 7,500 people. Its suppliers in the state employ another 15,000. He said the state is poised to use the Boeing plant, which will manufacture the 787 Dreamliner passenger jet, as a similar job anchor.

Another plus: There are aircraft manufacturers in North Carolina and Georgia. South Carolina will try to sell to companies that supply those manufacturers as being centrally located to each state, virtually union free and offering low taxes.

"We're right in the middle," Hitt said. "We're working with one company now that could [supply] five different aviation companies."

Haley will be attending the air show with her husband, Michael. While the show runs from June 20-26, the Haleys, Hitt and some of their staff members will stay only two days, then head on to Germany for a series of economic development meetings. The travel tab is anticipated to be about $53,000.

Gov. Haley, a tea party darling and rising national political figure, will be making her first overseas economic development trip. Hitt said her attendance is generating buzz among potential companies.
