John Parr, of St. Elmo's Fire Fame, Returns to U.S. with New Album and Tour

Grammy-nominated singer and songwriter John Parr is returning to America with a new album and tour. The album and tour, titled “Letter to America,” feature his older fan favorite hits, such as “St. Elmo’s Fire” and “Naughty, Naughty,” along with a variety of new hits, including two discs of acoustic and rock tracks.

“I’m very excited to be coming back to America, my second home,” he says. “I’ve been away for too long, and I look forward to re-connecting with the American people. This album and tour are very special to me.”

Parr’s concert schedule features several dates in Charlotte, North Carolina, as well as other stops in the state and around the country, including York, Rock Hill, Burnsville, Chapel Hill, and Greensboro. He will also be performing in New York City, Santa Monica, and Augusta, Georgia, with additional stops to be added.

Having sold over 10 million albums, Parr is no stranger to producing hit songs. Two of his hit 80's songs -- “St. Elmo’s Fire” and “Naughty, Naughty” – remain fan favorites to this day, and will be featured on his new album. A lifetime-inspired 2-disc collection, it will be released on this country’s birthday, July 4th. “Letter to America” will also feature such new hits as “The Minute I Saw You” and “The Best a Man Can Get.” He also wrote the song “Comin’ Home” about his personal journey back to America to play music, reflective of everyone’s journey home after being away.

“It’s been a while since I performed in America, so this is going to be really great,” added Parr. “I have been looking forward to this for a while now. America has always been a special place to me, so I’m thrilled to be able to come back and share my music with everyone.”

In addition to his solo work, Parr has worked with many notable names in the music industry, including having performed with Tina Turner, Bryan Adams, Meatloaf, Journey, Richard Marx, the Beach Boys, Celine Dion, Blue Oyster Cult, and Marilyn Martin. He has also written songs with Mutt Lange, Harold Faltermeyer, Marvin Hamlisch, David Foster and Roger Daltrey.

TEE PEE RECORDS TO RELEASE THREE ALBUM DISCOGRAPHY FROM ACCLAIMED ...

BLUEBIRD  was ahead of their time — but in a rather unusual way.  While the band existed within the confines of the late-90s post-grunge esoteric art-punk underground, its virtuosic merging of anthemic riff-rock with experimental psych-punk seemed an anomaly in an era of disjointed lo-fi spatter.   BLUEBIRD  was an MC5 for the 21st century: a fierce hybrid of musical muscle and artistic exploration. In today’s pastiche musical culture, the Los Angeles unit’s multiple personality power-psych-punk would make much more sense.

In the same way that Black Sabbath, Queens of the Stone Age and Quicksand deftly blend heavy guitar riffing with shimmering vocal melodies,  BLUEBIRD  made catchy pop songs driven by heavy layers of guitars that could also just as easily be outtakes from Swervedriver or Jane’s Addiction.   BLUEBIRD  was comprised of such divergent personalities that any song – from its most traditionally structured rock tune, to its freeform droning jams – seemed to be tugging in a variety of directions all at once. This friction resulted in a catalog of 4 albums and multiple EPs that boldly revitalized rock formalism.

A guiding force to the band was the innate connections between brothers,  Jim  and  Bryan Lee Brown  (bass and drums, respectively) who played together since their elementary school days (and continue to do so today in  Holloys ).  But, also the melodic hooks of vocalist  Sam James Velde  (who today leads Tee Pee Records band  Night Horse ) and the thick guitar layers paved by  Barry Thomas  and later recruit,  Paul Figueroa , adding further glue to this bond. Composed of five musicians who each contribute a vital energy to every detail of their music,  BLUEBIRD ‘s masterful balance of pop sensibility and sonic battery is compulsory listening.

“We spent years writing, recording, and touring the world as Bluebird,” said  Sam James Velde. “ The evolution of the band has meant a lot to us. Definitely a crazy journey none of us will ever forget. From writing and recording our first 7 inch in two weeks, to touring with amazing bands and people like L7, Bluetip, Pleasure Forever and the Foo Fighters to having the opportunity to record and play live shows with Wayne Kramer of the MC5. Truly some cherished times. We realized our records lived in obscurity or out of print and what a shame it would be to see our contribution to it all lost in time, and not be able to share the journey with others was a hollow feeling. Thanks to Tee Pee Records we’re pleased to be able to bring this collection of ‘released’ material to everyone.
