Breakfast links: Whither Haynesworth?

Yeah, Mr. Conditioning Test is in the news again. As indications mount that the end of the NFL lockout is at least a reasonable thing for which to hope, speculation mounts about some of the big-name moves that have been on hold during the labor dispute. On Wednesday, Albert Haynesworth's name popped up in a couple of places, because ridding themselves of Haynesworth is going to be one of the Washington Redskins' first priorities post-lockout. Yahoo! Sports' Mike Silver, in a long piece about the Eagles' post-lockout plans , wrote of the connection between Haynesworth and new Eagles defensive line coach Jim Washburn, who was Haynesworth's line coach in Tennessee. Silver cites an Eagles source saying that Washburn "is convinced he can get the most out of Haynesworth" and "wants him badly." I have no doubt that both Silver and Washburn are correct, which is why I don't think the Redskins would consider dealing Haynesworth to Philadelphia. I believe he'd thrive there, and that means destroying the Redskins twice a year. I also don't think, no matter how badly Washburn might want him, that the Eagles' front office would deal significant assets for Haynesworth and his $5.4 million salary. Over at the NFC West blog, Mike Sando mulled the idea of Haynesworth and the St. Louis Rams , who also run the 4-3 defense for which Big Al believes he's so much better suited. The Rams have a defensive head coach in Steve Spagnuolo, and Mike believes he could get something out of Haynesworth. Mike does not, however, believe Haynesworth is the kind of player the Rams like to bring in: Mike and I spoke about this Wednesday, and we agreed that we're both interested to find out whether the Redskins would cut Haynesworth if they didn't end up getting enough for him in trade. They could have done it last year but opted instead to keep him around and on the bench, even inactive for some games. They could do that again if Mike Shanahan wants to, and they obviously don't have the kind of relationship with Haynesworth that would lead them to deal him for his own sake. It's possible they could decide they're just sick of having him around, but doing that would heighten the risk of his signing with Washburn and Philly. So this is an interesting situation that bears watching when and if the lockout does finally end. London Fletcher has actually been calling defensive plays during the Redskins' player workouts.

New York Marriage Equality Bill Impacts More Than - Towleroad

It's very close and we desperately need a victory after years of defeats.

During the 2009 battle over same sex marriage In Maine Obama was silent, refusing to condemn rightwing bigots and christers. When he went to Puerto Rico to fish for votes on the mainland did he raise the question of the waves of murders of GLBT folks there? Did he offer to send in teams of forensic detectives to track down and prosecute the killers? Obama's obnoxious silence in Maine and Puerto Rico was in keeping with his deliberate and unfortunately successful attempt to derail same sex marriage in California, Florida and Arizona and his earlier refusal to denounce Rick Warren and Donnie McClurkin. hierarchs

Obama's bigoted 'gawd's in the mix' rant was heard by millions on CNN, MTV, Fox and other venues. No on 8, a front group for Democrats was too gutless to criticize Obama's bigotry. Then rightwing christians, mainly from the catholic, mormon and southern baptists cults used Obama's bigotry to galvanize the bigot vote in 2008. Apparently few people paid much attention to his feeble, tactical opposition to Prop 8' as being 'unnecessary'.

Now Obama, or at least his press agents, claim he's evolving. He did actually stop, after two long years, his administrations use of vile bigoted language to defend Clinton's DOMA and DADT in the courts. That's because he faces a very tough reelection fight. The economy can only get worse from now on because he refused to do anything about the twenty five million or so unemployed or underemployed workers. Instead of proposing spending however many trillions it takes to end unemployment by greening the economy he pushed to retain Bush's tax cuts for the rich. Adding salt to wounds he passed out trillions for TARP handouts, his phony 'stimulus package', his phony 'health care' plan and to stabilize Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac, not to end foreclosures but to cover the losses of the banksters.

So is he contemplating pandering to us because he's alienated everyone else? Will he go to New York and campaign for same sex marriage by the deadline? Stay tuned for the next episode of As The Stomach Turns.

The best of luck to everyone in NY fighting for the right to marry.

I think those statistics only scratch the surface. New York has always been a place that attracts the top talent from around the world. Imagine the influx of talented people who will come here when gay marriage is added to the benefits we offer. Look what single gay people did to the neighborhoods we moved into. The Village. Chelsea. Hell's Kitchen. We are a stabilizing and uplifting force wherever we go. Couple that with the inherent (if anecdotal) stability family-oriented communities have traditionally had. We'll be a powerhouse demographic! It can only make New York more competitive on the global stage.
