Another Major Villain May Be Starring in THE AVENGERS [Potential Spoilers]

.  Since I know a lot of you are trying to steer clear from spoilers and very little about the film has been released, I’m going to include this news after the jump.  There will be spoilers about a possible new villain as well as villains that have been mentioned previously, but you may not have seen that news.  I’ll also be making mention of what happens after the credits in Thor

Debuting in the Bronze Age of comic books, the character has featured in over three decades of Marvel continuity and a self-titled series. The character’s name is a derivation of Thanatos, the personification of death and mortality in Greek mythology.  One of his more prominent storylines to date—the Infinity Gauntlet series—portrayed him as a mad cosmic tyrant bent on slaying half of all sentiences existing then in Marvel’s multiverse in order to appease the Marvel Universe’s actual (and more powerful) embodied personification of Death in an attempt to win its love.

What makes this news convincing is that this isn’t the first time we’ve heard about the Infinity Gauntlet.  If you blinked then you probably missed it in Odin’s vault, but Marvel brought the item to last year’s San Diego Comic-Con alongside Mjolnir and Captain America’s shield.

Latino Review won’t say how Thanos figures into the movie and I’m grateful for that.  However, it’s clear that Marvel is going bigger than we previously imagined.  Not only will The Avengers

Whoa, guys … too much!

An Avengers movie with Loki “controlling” the Hulk in the first act (getting all the team together) and then the “Loki brings in the Skrulls” story for the second act and losing control of them in the third act is all we really need. Lots of opportunity for Avengery action and character interaction in there.

Leave Thanos for a sequel.

I’m super excited now, even more so than before!

I’m think Thanos might not be directly involved but setup outside of the plot for the second Avengers film? Wouldn’t it be great to see the Surfer and F4 show up? A shame that the rights are still stuck at FOX till who knows when, I’d love to see a good Marvel Studios take on either of them.

Perhaps we’ll see some Lady Chaos, Eternity and Infinity involvement in the future

@ Joe Robot

One of these days, someone is going to write a book that focuses on Marvel’s contracts with non-Disney film studios. I’m of the mind that the stories circulating the Internet are largely true— but missing some key elements that either can’t or won’t be shared with the generall public. To wit, I wouldn’t be surprised if we were to find out that Fox Studios didn’t have as tight a hold on the FF characters as most of us think. Who knows?

When You See Hades, Think Greek Mythology, Not the Word « Hell? No!

Whenever I talk to believers who seem absolutely convinced that Hell exists and I show them the many things Jesus said that make Hell an impossibility, they often turn to the book of Revelation for what seems like indisputable proof that Jesus could not have meant what he said.

Here’s a passage they typically quote, from Revelations Chapter 20, Verses 12-15:

“And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened : and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.”

Now, if you read this without paying too much attention to the details, sure, it seems like a pretty slam dunk case for Hell. But please allow me to point out a couple of those, rarely if ever noticed, details.

First, why is “Hell” being tossed into a place that just seems like, well, Hell? Oh, I’ve heard the elaborate explanations. The most common says, “Hell is like a jail house, but after the conviction of Judgment, then you go to the permanent place of torture, the Lake of Fire.” Of course, this would mean that God was punishing people before they were convicted!

But there’s a far better reason why this explanation is completely and totally bogus—the original word for “Hell” in verses 13 and 14 is Hades, not a place, but the pagan god in Greek mythology, the brother of Zeus who ruled over the dead.

Oh, and when the same passages mention “death,” they’re not talking about some nebulous concept of life ending. After all, how could a concept “deliver” or hand over people? No, once again, if we look at the original Greek, the word translated as “death” is THANATOS, not a concept, but a being, the god of Death in Greek mythology, whom we know better as the Grim Reaper!

By all rights, the words translated in the King James Version as “death and hell,” should have been captialized to show what the surviving texts say, the gods Thanatos and Hades.
