Mingo lawyer steps up campaign for Supreme Court

CHARLESTON, West Virginia - Mingo County attorney Tish Chafin began a great campaign for the Supreme Court this week backed by dozens of other lawyers, businessmen and the Democratic Party faithful.

Chafin is married to Democratic Sen. Truman Chafin, D-Mingo, and plans to build on the wealth of the couple during the campaign, including the private level, it used this week to the campaign in parts of the state.

Chafin law practice with the firm two H. Truman Chafin of Williamson Act and have three daughters. She graduated from Marshall University, where she is now a member of the Board of Governors of the University.His law degree is from West Virginia University.

She is past president of the Bar of the State, the quasi-government all lawyers in the state should join. During his one-year term there, Chafin tour the 55 counties.

"Now I am ready to step up and provide my expertise and my passion for law as a member of the highest court of the state," she said Thursday during a media event at the Embassy Suites in Charleston.

Two seats will be court 12 years on the ballot in 2012. Democratic Justice Robin Davis will be executed to keep his seat.Democratic Justice Thomas McHugh, who won a tough special election last fall, announced that it will not run again.

McHugh opponent in this tight race, Republican John Yoder, a judge of the Circuit Court in the Eastern Panhandle, said he will run again in 2012. Yoder could not be reached for comment Thursday night.

After the press conference, over 100 supporters Chafin plans to hold a party kick off the campaign.

The invitation to the event Thursday night at the Embassy Suites in downtown Charleston featuring a who's who of movers and shakers West Virginia.

Guests at the event kick-off included lawyers from both sides of the record of, by prominent personal injury lawyer Michael Jackson Kelley Romano to the company lawyer Louis Southworth.

Kanawha County Commission President Kent Carper of, counsel for the plaintiff, is to help lead the fundraising efforts of Chafin.

Kanawha Commissioner Dave Hardy, a defense lawyer, is also supported by Chafin.

Former state senators oShell Craigo Love and Shirley are her support, too.There is also the coal and the interests of several gases, including coal operator Buck Harless, Ike Morris, the head of the Waco oil and gas, and former Deputy Mike Ross, who has interests in the gas industry.
