Airline High grad in freak accident to have surgery
BOSSIER CITY, LA (KSLA)- We're learning more about a freak accident that seriously injured a recent Airline High School graduate.
It happened Mone't Zeno was traveling through Ohio. Zeno will have the first of several surgeries this weekend.
KSLA News 12 spoke with her mother over the phone.
We're told a metal rod somehow crashed through the windshield of the bus she was on while riding on an Ohio freeway, hitting her in the face.
"...broke her nose, the bones in her nose, underneath her right eye, and shattered the pallet, which is the top plate of her mouth," says Vanessa Zeno.
Zeno tells us that it also knocked her teeth out.
"She will have extensive reconstructive surgery on her nose, her eyes, her jaw, and pallet on Saturday."
Mone't was on a senior trip to Niagara Falls with about 50 other teens from First Baptist Bossier. They were on the way back when the accident happened. Her parents cut their vacation short to fly to Ohio to be with her.
"We'll be here in Ohio for several weeks until they release her. There will be several trips back her just to make sure everything is ok because there will be some other cosmetic surgeries that she will have to have."
Vanessa Zeno says they're hopeful that Mone't will look like her old self at some point.
"Her plastic surgeon believes he can get her back to where she was. It's just a matter of time."
In the meantime, she says they're grateful for all the support and positive energy coming their way.
"Her facebook account is just overwhelming. We are just thankful for all the prayers for her and us."
