McGuire said he thinks he`ll enjoy spending time with the Seabees.

"It`s going to be an exciting adventure," he said, adding that he will have to carry weapons in Afghanistan, with during physical training being the only exception.

Carrying a weapon daily might seem odd to McGuire after eight years of civilian life as a father and lawyer.

Yet, "there are times when it would be nice to carry" a gun in court, he joked.

Now, he`ll get that chance.

And McGuire intends to try to earn the Seabee Combat Warfare Specialist pin in order to learn more about his clients, the Seabees. That means he will need to be "fully trained and qualified as a member of the various Naval Construction Force units."

"It`s a nice thing," he said. "I get to build something instead of tearing it down."

But the deployment also means McGuire will leave behind his family, which includes his wife, four kids and two cats, and his law practice with his partner, Dennis Brandenburg.

While he will have opportunities to communicate with his family members, he knows he`s going to miss his wife and kids a lot. The cats, not so much, though, he said, laughing.
