Worley's return sparks surprise departure

&Ldquo;I think it was good to get my feet back under me, to get my pitch count up, to work on my off-speed stuff a little more and pick up some velocity,” Worley said. “I think it was better for me to do it down there than up here. I think I would’ve been more stressed out if I would’ve had rough outings like that again.” “I was a lucky guy to be traded here back in 1989,” Kruk said. “I know Bill Giles had a lot to do with that. Larry Bowa when he got fired from the Padres as my manager, the first thing he told me the day I called him was, ‘We’re going to get you to Philly; we’ve got to get you out of this place.’ It’s not that San Diego’s not a great place to live; it wasn’t a good place to play for me. This is home, (the) East Coast. It’s more to my liking. I could be what I wanted to be here. In San Diego, I had to be what they wanted me to be. “In ’92 and ’91, we knew we could score runs but our pitching was really awful. But we thought this year, when Danny Jackson came in and Curt Schilling was developing and Terry Mulholland was the guy who finished games like Roy Halladay now finishes games, we thought we had a chance. But to describe that team … when the most sane person on your team has Tourette’s syndrome, there you go.” “I think it was good to get my feet back under me, to get my pitch count up, to work on my off-speed stuff a little more and pick up some velocity,” Worley said. “I think it was better for me to do it down there than up here. Supporting People With Tourette Syndrome

People with Tourette Syndrome (TS) need support and understanding like anyone else. It is important for those who know someone with TS to educate themselves about it. Tourette’s like so many neurological disorders, syndromes and the like, gets such stigmatizing pathologizing over-dramatizing in television and movies and pop culture that in fact certain types of tics that represent less than 6% of all people with Tourette Syndrome get widespread and often inappropriate and inaccurate attention. Not everyone with TS swears, barks, repeats the speech of others or themselves. Author, Life Coach, BPD/Mental Health and Self Improvement Coach, A.J. Mahari, who herself has Tourette Syndrome, talks about how important it is to support people with TS, protect children from bullying and educate them about how to cope with it.

Each person with TS is an individual. How open they are or may not be to talking about TS in their lives is something to take a cue from and about. Supporting people with TS is really about accepting them, valuing them for who they are, not judging them. The less focus that there is on TS and a person’s tics, the more a person can learn to just be him or herself, tics and all.
