More rain, more flooding
More than two hours of torrential rain June 13 paralyzed downtown Pattaya, with knee-deep water drowning many of the sois between Beach and Second roads and traffic gridlocked on major thoroughfares as nearly a meter of water stalled motorbikes and cars from South Road to well past Central Festival Pattaya Beach.
Another rain storm, another bout of uncontrolled flooding - torrential rain June 13 paralyzed downtown Pattaya, with knee-deep water drowning many of the sois between Beach and Second roads.
The morning gale also brought down trees throughout the area, including several large ones in the public park near Soi 13/1, where felled trees blocked walkways.
But it was the flooding that angered most people, who believe the city has done too little to remedy persistent deluges. Nearly three hours after most of the rain had stopped, water lapped over Second Road sidewalks from The Avenue Galleria to Soi Diana, fed by raging rivers of storm water venting from side sois.
Unfortunately, because the city has done virtually nothing to remedy drain backups near The Avenue for more than two years, the high water was expected. The same could not be said for the even-higher water levels seen from Tipp Plaza to Central Festival, where the city previously taken a stab or two at clearing drains for the marquee shopping mall.
This week, however, even Central Festival was plagued by water racing into the underground parking garage and up to the mall’s entrance.
Down the road, staff at the Siam Bay View blocked off the Second Road entrance with sandbags to hold back the water. Owners of small roadside shops, bars and restaurants weren’t as lucky, putting up valuables on tables and fighting back floods with brooms.
An early morning storm on Friday, June 10 also caused flooding throughout the area, and especially in South Pattaya.
Shopkeepers and residents alike wondered why Pattaya’s government has done so little to solve the flooding when the problems are so obvious. The fact that city drain-cleaning trucks sat unmanned and empty just down the street only added insult to injury.

Really exciting stuff from what I saw in the trailer. The beginning voice over gives a synopsis of what the Eternity Vault is and why players will be going there. Short story even shorter: Prison break!
Before players even got inside the vault, there was some epic combat going on. Monster-sized turrets and a giant droid guard the door. What on earth could be so dangerous inside to warrant such a welcoming committee?

The start of the Operation reminded me a bit of the World of Warcraft raid Ulduar. You have to tear through two mechanical “doormen” before you can even enter the actual raid (Flame Leviathan & XT-002 Deconstructor). This made for a very interesting first experience. It left us wondering what was inside and how dangerous it could be.
If the Eternity Vault is anything at all like Ulduar, I will be most pleased. Ulduar was my absolute favorite raid in all my 6 years of WoW. I think many players would agree, it was quite epic.

Another non-Operation topic I wanted to discuss is the finalized UI.
It seems that the cry was heard and the unnecessary artwork was removed. Yes!

If you read my rant on the User Interface friday update, you know that I’m highly against flashy artwork and other such screen-clutter-ers. I like a clean, non-distracting UI. It keeps my focus on the things that matter: Group health, my force point, and my character’s feet. (Can’t be standing in fire!)
The final product is very pleasing. It has everything you need and nothing you don’t. Simple, elegant, and clutter-free. My only qualm is is the location of party health bars. I’ve always had mine in the center via the Grid addon and will be very sad without it.
I’m looking at this as a learning opportunity though, a way to adapt and improve my overall skill…. Until addons are available, then it’s full center and no character portraits!!
