ICAST 2011 | Airrus Rods Debuts KIII Nano Fusion Rods
This year he's back with Airrus and debuting the new KIII Nano Fusion rod. This rod features a new material in rod building called bucky paper. Bucky paper is basically carbon fibers that are put together similar to how paper is mulched together and formed. Then those bucky paper wraps are added to the tip and butt sections of the rod to make them more durable and sensitive. Another innovation on the rods are custom guides that Whiting developed to match the angle the line comes off the reel with micro guides. The guides start further off the rod to lessen the angle change and improve casting and smoothness in performance. Then each guide gets closer to the blank. The custom guides are also much stronger than a lot of microguides while also reducing the amount of cracking at the attachment point on the rod. Im glad to see Ken back with Airrus rods. he has made some intresting rods for sure and I have two PulsRs that are that I dont fish anymore but I always love looking at the rods and enjoyed fishing them some to, that held a place in the rod locker for a year or so and thats with many JDM, Daiwa, Megabass and Evergreen sticks so thats saying something about the rods. I will pick up one or two of these sticks to play with! I opened a custom Rod store front around 1980 and retired in 2000. I built rods for off shore,Salmon,Ironheads (Steelhead), Sturgeon, Halibut, Sea Bass and trout. I still build rods and try and keep up on the industries new materials and designs. If there is a miss take to be made I have made it at least a couple of times.
