Paddlefest comes to Lake Natoma
The 18th annual Paddlefest returns to Nimbus Flats on Lake Natoma on Saturday.
California Canoe & Kayak (CCK), a large paddlesport company founded in 1972, again hosts one of the country’s first and longest-running events of its kind.
Since 1993, co-owners Keith Miller and his wife Tammy Borichevsky have partnered with Don Thoman, who originally purchased Canoe Trips West from its founding owner Ann Dwyer in 1972, to bring the multi-purpose Paddlefest to the Sacramento area.
CCK has two store locations. One is in Rancho Cordova and the other in Jack London Square in Oakland.
Admission to Paddlefest is free. Multiple clinics will be held throughout the event, which runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Clinics include stand-up paddleboard skills building, races, paddleboard games and what Borichevsky said was more fun and interactive activities than just trying out boats.
“It’s just more fun to learn the skills necessary for paddlesports by playing games,” said Borichevsky. “The event has become so much fun each year. It’s great to see big families come and that kids love it. It’s just a lot of fun and we can’t wait.”
This year’s Paddlefest will include a first-ever “Kids’ Zone.” The purpose is to allow parents to bring their families. As professional instructors take the kids on interactive clinics catered specifically to them, parents can free up some time to possibly test more boats.
“We’re incorporating the Kids’ Zone to add a more fun and as away to go out and use or test kayaks,” said Borichevsky.
Manufacturers present at the event will include Hobie Kayaks, Current Designs, Action Watersports and more.
Discounted and premium kayaks and canoes, among others, will be available for sale on Saturday and also on Sunday at the Rancho Cordova store.
The Sunday event will showcase sales of all kinds of paddlesport boats.
Nimbus Flats on Lake Natoma is downstream and part of the Folsom Lake State Recreation Area. Parking is $5 to the California State Parks.
