Ansys completes Apache Design acquisition
PITTSBURGH (AP) Engineering software provider Ansys Inc. says it has completed its acquisition of Apache Design Solutions Inc. for $314 million in cash.
Apache Design is a privately held company based in San Jose, Calif. and specializes in designing simulation software for advanced, low-power solutions in the electronics industry.
Engineers use Apache's products to design and simulate efficient, low-power integrated circuits for high-performance electronic products such as tablet and laptop computers, smartphones, LCD televisions and high-end computer servers,
The acquisition included up to $12 million in cash payments to be paid in equal portions on the first three anniversaries of acquisition as long as Apache co-founder and CEO Andrew Yang stays with the company.
Yang will serve as president of Apache Design Inc., which becomes a subsidiary of Ansys. Yang also will serve as vice president and general manager at Ansys.
Canonsburg, Pa.-based Ansys employs 2,000 people in 60 sales offices and 21 development centers on three continents.

Auxilium pares 2Q loss, but cuts Xiaflex forecast
MALVERN, Pa. (AP) Auxilium Pharmaceuticals Inc. is reporting a smaller second-quarter loss, but the company's shares fell yesterday after it lowered its expectations for sales of its drug Xiaflex.
Auxilium said it lost $5.1 million, or 11 cents per share, in the most recent quarter. A year ago the company lost $13.5 million, or 28 cents per share. Its revenue grew 31 percent.
The company said Xiaflex revenue rose to $15.4 million, up from $3.1 million a year ago. Xiaflex is approved to treat a condition that makes the tendons of the hand thicken and shorten, causing the fingers to curve inward. Auxilium started marketing the drug in March 2010. Revenue from Xiaflex totaled $12.3 million in the first quarter.
The company now forecasts $45 million to $50 million in U.S. Xiaflex revenue, down from its previous estimate of $50 million to $60 million.
