Free Autographed Mavs Ball? Strings Detached
Are you ballsy enough to claim you are the Mavericks biggest fan? Well, one Dallas area doctor is giving you the opportunity to prove it and have a chance in a drawing for a 2011 Mavericks team autographed basketball in the process.
Just schedule an appointment during the NBA Finals with Dr. Mitch Moskowitz, an 18-year veteran with the Dallas Urology Associates, mention the ball, and then undergo the procedure ... a vasectomy.
As Moskowitz's three-month old website, SportSnip.com, declares, "We're Nuts About the Mavs!"
"We're having fun with it," says Moskowitz, a Mavericks season-ticket holder since 1996. "It can be a sensitive subject, but from the medical side, we're trying to make it more comfortable, and make the experience easier for patients."
The good doctor originally conceived of SportsSnip while recuperating from a hip replacement surgery of his own. During his two weeks of recovery from the procedure, which happened to fall in the middle of last year's baseball postseason, Moskowitz says he realized watching sports made him feel a little better.
"It took my mind off the surgery," he says. "So I thought, what could make recovering from a vasectomy a little more easy, convenient, maybe even fun?"
With the assistance of Andy Harmon, a local marketing and advertising specialist, as well as a satisfied patient, SportSnip was born in March just in time for the men's NCAA basketball tournament. Those who signed up received a "Recovery Package," which included a bracket, a bag of frozen peas and a $25 gift card for pizza, wings, snacks and beverages.
"If I had a vasectomy, I'd do it around March Madness," Moskowitz explains. "It's a three-to-four week period. You can have the vasectomy on a Thursday and not stop watching basketball. You know, why not?"
Though a half dozen or so patients specifically took advantage of the SportSnip package for the college basketball tourney, no one had taken Moskowitz up on his autographed basketball special through five games of the NBA Finals. The offer does still include the Recovery Package, not to mention the doctor's orders to spend several days watching sports.
One of "D" magazine's Best Doctors in Dallas five years running, Moskowitz says SportSnip has garnered him plenty of attention. He has already appeared on three Dallas radio stations -- "To talk sports and vasectomy" -- and Moskowitz says Mavericks owner Mark Cuban caught wind of the deal and even retweeted it to his nearly 500,000 followers.
