So some gentrified yupster bar that has only been around in its present yuppified incarnation has lost some ironic leg lamp? And we're supposed to care? As opposed to suspect that it was "lost" on purpose for the publicity? The "new normal" economy is starting to affect even hipsters. Someone has lost a leg in Morningside Heights! Well, a leg lamp. A reader sent in the above photo, saying, "I noticed the signs all around my Morningside Heights neighborhood. The bar SIP has lost its leg lamp (a la A Christmas Story).

Why Not Throw an Oscar Party?
My favorite Oscar menu items to serve for the “glamorous game night” include miniature treats, such as mini-quiche and mini-meatballs served in a slow-cooker with barbecue sauce and crushed pineapple (trust me, it’s delish!), and mini-homemade pizzas (simply roll out pizza dough, cut into small rounds and top with your choice of delectable toppings).Have these treats out for all guests to enjoy throughout the night. I also like to make a dish of pesto pasta, roasted shrimp cocktail (roast whole shrimp on a baking sheet with olive oil, salt and pepper for 12-15 minutes at 375 degrees) and garlic fries (bake French fries according to manufacturer’s instructions. Add two minced garlic cloves to 4 tablespoons of butter. Pour on top of finished fries and mix well. Top with a generous sprinkling of salt, pepper and fresh Italian parsley).
For dessert, my frozen bananas covered in peanut butter and chocolate are always a huge hit. Just cut bananas into two, insert a small popsicle stick or bamboo skewer, dip into melted peanut butter and freeze for about two hours on parchment-lined cookie sheet. Then, dip the bananas into melted chocolate and freeze for another two hours or until serving time. in the window. Even if you’re not looking for Oscar merchandise, that’s worth the trip to the store by itself!
I print ballots from the official Oscar website oscar.com and have my guests predict the winners before the ceremony begins. Whoever wins the most Oscars gets the Grand Prize of Awesomeness.
But there are other opportunities to win prizes as well. We play “Leading Ladies” in which each guest wears a name tag on their back and must guess who they are by asking everyone in the room yes/no questions about their Leading Lady. The first person to guess who they are wins a prize. I also pass out consolation prizes to each guest for participating in the fun.
I like to hand out mini-bottles of champagne, Netflix gift cards and bags of popcorn in little red and white striped popcorn containers I’ve purchased from the dollar aisle at Target.
